My wife has brazil + american passport with different names due to marriage.What name to use on air ticket?

When we travel back and forth between the 2 countries we used her maiden name on her brazil passport on the air tickets and carried our marriage license. Her greencard had the married name and we had no problems. Now her US passport has the married name. What name should we buy the air ticket in the maiden on the brazil passport or the married on the us passport.

Your wife is still a Brazilian citizen although she holds a U.S. passport now. Both countries tolerate dual citizenship.

As U.S. citizen she is required to enter and leave the U.S. using the U.S. passport, however as Brazilian citizen she is also obliged to leave and enter Brazil by using her Brazilian passport.

You should book the tickets on the U.S. passport since America applies to the Advanced Passenger Information System (APIS) that requires all airlines to report the name and passport details of their passengers in advance and it would cause confusion on the return-trip at U.S. immigration if a Brazilian girl is reported and an American lady arrives. Brazil does not apply to APIS hence it does not matter. On check in however she also needs to show her Brazilian passport and the marriage certificate, since otherwise the airline would not let her board on a U.S. passport without a Brazilian visa.

To enter Brazil she still should carry her Brazilian passport as before.

To enter Brazil on an American passport involves a prior visa application and a fee of $131. She would not get a visa for Brazil as long as she holds a Brazilian passport and has not renounced her Brazilian citizenship..
