Suitcase or Luggage?

The term suitcase has fallen from popularity in recent years. Although I'm unsure of the exact linguistic reason for this, I have some theories. The term suitcase conjures up images of a 1950s traveling salesman slipping his suitcase into the trunk of his classic Chevy and putting off down the road to make his next sale. That "suitcase" would of course be full of suits, thus the term suitcase. The basic construction we imagine is a rectangular box, one handle on top, a few clips to keep it closed, and possibly some small metal nubs on the bottom to keep it from getting dirty.

Although luggage is the preferred nomenclature these days, some of us just can't get the term suitcase out of our heads. When I pack for a trip I almost always call for us to "pack the suitcase." Luggage might be a more broad term, but there's something iconic and special about the term suitcase. It's not like rectangular bags aren't produced any longer, they've just fallen out of fashion. How do you open a suitcase if you forgot the comination lock?

it's one of those hardside suitcases that can only open with a combination code. My grandfather set it and forgot the code and we need it opened. Does anyone know how? It's a 3-digit code.

I KNOW HOW!!!
Simply use these
1.) Throw it at a tree or wall to make it lose.
2.) Pry it open with a flathead screwdriver.
3.) If what's in it is really important you might have to saw it open.
4.) Try every single 3 digit combination there is until your grandpa recognizes it. There are 1,000 possible combos.
5.) Ask a professional.
6.) You're screwed.
